Warnings:
This place is littered with asbestos, especially on the ground floor, you cannot enter this
building without, at least, a dust mask. Youd be better off with a respirator and some
form of eye protection. Be prepared to throw away any external clothing. IE Shoes, pants,
shirts...The complex is Sooooo large that my text file cannot cover every thing inside the
building nor may it be as I indicated due to you not understanding my directions, etc...
But have a look anyway. It took us over 2 hours to explore and I say we only covered 1/2
of the building...Bolt cutter can be used to gain entry into the building but please put the
locks back as to look that they havent been tampered with. Otherwise the next group of
fellas might have a hard time getting in due to the fact that security will be stepped up.
On the note of security, there is no security guard there anymore around the clock but
they do drive bys and check the externals of the building mainly the portable offices near
the entrance. Try not to shine your torch at windows once inside.
Description:
From the corner of Victoria Rd & Robert Street, walk down the hill towards the big white fence.
Keep walking till you reach the wire fence. There is a hole in it. Go thru and head back
towards the power station. Walk past the coal loaders and look for the wire gates into the
property. You can squeeze through them to get in. Directly on your right is the coal loader.
Walk through the bushes to the corrugated wall which is suppose to fence off entry to the coal
loaders. The left hand side of this will provide entry into here. Be careful of the floor in the
coal loader area. Stick to the train tracks area and watch out when walking on metal floor
because it seemed unstable and the drop down into the coal pits will be unpleasant due to
the fact that there deep and filled with stagnant water. Continue to the back right hand corner
of the building. You will see a metal stair case. Head on up to the very top. You will now see
the conveyor belt assembly used to ship across the coal to the main building. Entry may be
gained by walking across the conveyor assembly.
But we dont recommend it because the wooden floor is rotten and the drop will kill you. Head back
the way you came. Now outside the coal loader building, face the main building. On your far left is
a hill giong up one side of the cliff. The left hand side of the building has an access way which runs
cables. The door is marked HIGH VOLTAGE KEEP OUT or something similar. The tunnel goes in
and turns right up ahead. Once you have turned right, keep walking and listen for a humming sound.
This will mean that the cables are now live and should not be touched. These should be on your left
of the tunnel. Up ahead you may notice a light. Check it out, this may join to the part of the power
station which is still active. Exit the way you came.Once out of the tunnel head for the brown brick
building in which a stair case runs on one side. There is a window here that we smashed to get in.
If its been borded up then smash another one. Or if you have bolt cutters then just cut the padlock on
the door and go in. Put on your dust mask before entering. You are now on the bottom floor of the
power station. To your right is the formans office and a doorway into the stair case. Going up the
stair case takes you to the different levels of the power station. There is no real floors above ground
but metal walkways that run between the masses of machinery that extend to the roof. Once at the
top of the stairs you may walk out onto the metal walkway and go left. Here you will find a broken
window in which you can exit onto the roof levels. Other ladders will take you to the very top of the
building. There are hand rails before the edges so its pretty safe. On the top you will see right over
glebe, down the barrel of the new glebe island bridge and various other Sydney landmarks. What
a great place to watch the new years eve fire works :) Heading back the way you came, you may
walk between the machinery on the different levels but be careful on the walkways, they may not be
safe. Once at the bottom of the stairs again you can go straight were you will find against the far
wall a hard hat and a fire extinguisher that still works. Or go left were the building turns left into an
L-Shape. Going around into the other part of the building (towards corner of Victoria Rd &
Robert St) You will be in the place where they have the mercury arc rectifiers, notice the big bulbs
that used to contain the mercury. Keep away from the base of these machines as mercury is toxic.
On the bottom floor you may find a place where all these boxes, little jars and rolls of film are.
Keep away from this stuff, dont open the boxes or jars, they contain toxic material. Going to the
back of the Victoria Rd & Robert Street Side of the building find a stair case going to the 1st floor
in the machinery area. Then head towards the back past the workshops on your left (no tools left)
and find the stairs snaking up around the antique elevator leading up to the locker rooms, shower
and lunch rooms. Unfortunately they have all been raided in the past so not much goodies reside
unless you like brill cream and a whole assortment of different cosmetics :) In the corner of the
L-Shape of the building resides transformers and cable which is still live. Again, listen for the
humming sounds. Try and find where the other end of the coal loader enters the main building and
check out the view over the harbour. Keep exploring and DONT take those masks off!!! EOF.
